Betelgeuse
Betelgeuse
A contained core of color suspended within crystal.
This piece is constructed from a leaded optical crystal exterior, enclosing a dichroic glass center. The outer mass is shaped and polished by hand to full clarity—allowing the internal form to remain fully visible, yet optically altered by the surrounding material.
As light passes through the crystal, the core shifts in intensity and color—appearing to expand, contract, and reposition depending on angle and environment. The outer structure acts as both lens and boundary, distorting and amplifying what it contains.
The result is a constant tension between containment and release—light held within, yet never fixed.
A minor internal inclusion is present within the piece, subtly visible under certain lighting conditions. It does not interrupt the optical behavior, but instead becomes part of the object’s internal landscape.
